Micro excavator generally fall into one of the three weight classes: from 1,000 lb. (0.5 tons) to 20,000 lb. (10 tons), depending on size, power, and application. Here is an outline of my general approach:
1. Ultra-compact mini-excavators (below 4,000 lb or about 2 tons) are ideal for tight spaces, landscaping, and indoor projects. These are moved around using a pickup truck and trailer. Examples include 1-ton mini-excavators in lighter digging jobs.
2. Standard mini-excavators (4,000–10,000 lb or 2–5 tons) resist residential construction, trenching, and light demolition. A middle ground between power and portability. They generally need a larger trailer to transport them.
3. Heavy mini-excavators (10,000–20,000 lb or 5–10 tons) Built for roadwork, utility jobs, and commercial construction. They are heavier, sturdier, and more capable for larger attachments. They require a heavy-duty truck and trailer for their transport.
